MAJOR SECTORS OF
NIGERIAN ECONOMY
Oil:
• Nigeria’s oil revenue accounted for a larger share of the
total revenue which rose from 77.5% in 1975 to 88.6% in
2011
• Drop in the global crude oil prices in 2015, Nigeria’s
economy relied heavily on crude oil earnings, with steady
inflows of Foreign Portfolio Investment, and Foreign Direct
Investment
INFRASTRUCTURE:
• Reducing Price and slow growth have affected this sector
Agriculture resources:
• Agriculture has been the main stay of the Nigeria
economy right from the time of independence

• Agriculture being one of the key sectors of the


economy has been outlined in the ERGP to help
arrest the problem of food insecurity, generate
employment, improve foreign exchange earnings and
drive industrialization
Recession in Nigeria have not happened in a year or two, and there is
not only a single reason for the current in Nigeria. The major Non-
Economic reasons for the Recession:

• INSECURITY: For the past seven years, Nigeria have been battling
with Boko Haram insurgency, cattle rustling, killer herdsmen,
Non-Economic kidnappers, armed robbers and so on.

Factors behind • CORRUPTION: There is no public economic sector in the country


which corruption has not threatened. That shows the lack of
Recessions of Existing Law system prevailing in the Whole Country and Economy

Nigeria • POOR LEADERSHIP AND POLITICAL SYSTEM: The lack of


consistency and greed of the politicians are among the causes of
the hemorrhage in the economy. And has a series of inefficient and
badly or not executed policy framework followed in Nigeria that has
led to the Current status of the whole Economy of Nigeria
HUMAN DEVELOPMENT: In general, human
resources play a great role in the success of
failure of any nation or organization. HDI
(Human Development Index) of Nigeria
stands at 157 out of 189 countries

THE ENVIRONMENT AND HEALTH ISSUES:


The health and environmental standards of
Nigeria are in a very poor condition. People
suffer from the lack of medicines and
inexperienced doctors with bad education
