Security!,
Scanners!, and
more!!!

Airport Security Detail

● The airport wants a more secure and improved

method of security using biometrics
● Our goal is to create a secure system using more
than one biometric system therefore increasing
security
Security plan

Step 1: when you buy your ticket, you do a fingerprint and retina scan as you are receiving your
ticket. It then prints your fingerprint onto your ticket.

Step 2: as you scan your fingerprint the computer runs a background check. (no fly list, criminal
warrants, etc.)

Step 3: go through security as normal

Step 4: as you are boarding you do a second scan to double check that they match the scans on
file or when you got your ticket to ensure that their ticket wasn’t stolen, given away, etc.
Biometrics
Fingerprint- The fingerprint scanner or optical scanner uses LED lights to capture the ridges and
furrows of the human fingerprint. It then compares the ridges and furrows to others images on
file. If a fingerprint matches that of a terrorist suspect or a suspect with an outstanding warrant
then authorities will be notified and the suspect will be detained.

Retina - The retina scanner uses a infrared light to scan the pattern of blood vessels in
the back of your eye. It then compares the patterns to other images on file. If a pattern
matches that of a terrorist suspect or suspect with an outstanding warrant then
authorities will be notified and the suspect will be detained
Images

The employee at the counter when they buy their ticket will Enter their flight

code and name and have the passenger scan their finger and run background

Check. Along with the fingerprint scan passengers will look into the below

machine and scan there retinas.

Accuracy and limitations

Fingerprint scanners can be fooled, however it is difficult. You would

have to successfully take someones finger or make a fake finger.
Retina scanners have an estimated error rate of 1 in 10 million So
there isn’t really any problems with the accuracy
Success Story

March 4, 2016 Blake Jones a career criminal, tried to rob Jack and Jed Second First Bank. He
broke in through the window of the bank and immediately went for the vault. One of the
employees told him the code, but seemed to forget the retina scanner attached to the vault. The
scanners picked up on his eyes. They scanned his eyes and found a match in the system. Alarms
went off and police were called. He now rots in jail, do not be like blake.
How someone could beat our system

There really isn't a way to trick a retina scan so there is no way for someone else to use your
ticket. To get past the background check you would have to be able to fool the fingerprint
scanner which would be hard because there would be someone standing right there at the
counter. Even if you fooled the fingerprint scanner your name has to match the fingerprint. So if
someone gave a fake name but there fingerprint was doug roberts then they would fail the test.
So while it is very hard it could be possible
Privacy

With our system we are more concerned about safety so privacy decreases. The more private
people are the lass safe it is. Since there is a file system, information could be leaked but that is
just their fingerprint, names and eye scans so plus side it isn’t any personal information
