TYPHOID

Typhoid is a bacterial infection that usually has

symptoms, like high fever, diarrhea, and vomiting. It
can be fatal and cause death if it is not cured well. It
is caused by the bacteria named Salmonella typhi.

The infection is often passed on through

contaminated food and drinking water, and it
usually happens in places where the people seldom
wash their hands. It can also be passed on by
carriers.
HOW THE INFECTION SPREADS
The Salmonella typhi bacteria commonly exist in the poo (stools) of an
infected person after they have been to the toilet.
If they don’t wash their hands properly after that, they can
contaminate any food they touch. Anyone else who eats this food may
also become infected.

Besides that, the Salmonella typhi bacteria can be passed out in an

infected person’s pee (urine).

Again, if an infected person handles food without washing their hands

properly after peeing, they can spread the infection to someone else
who eats the contaminated food.

In developing countries with poor sanitation, infected human waste

can contaminate the water suply.
OTHER WAYS TYPHOID FEVER CAN BE
CONTRACTED INCLUDE:
• Using a toilet contaminated with bacteria and
touching your mouth before washing your
hands
• Eating seafood from a water source
contamined by infected poo or pee
• Eating raw vegetables that have been fertilized
with human waste
• Contaminated milk products
