THERMOCOUPLE:
PRINCIPLE & CONSTRUCTION:
When any two different metals are connected
together, an e.m.f., which is a function of the
temperature, is generated at the junction
between the metals.
EQUATION:
TYPES:
• Chromel–constantan (type E).
• Iron–constantan (type J).
• Chromel–alumel (type K).
• Nicrosil–nisil (type N).
• Copper–constantan (type T).
GRAPHS:
EXTENSION LEADS
&
COMPANSATING LEADS
TABLES:
ADVANTAGES
• High temperature range(200-2600 )
• Direct contact.
• Fast response time.
• Available in small sizes.
• Durable.
DISADVANTAGES:
• Decreased accuracy than RTDs.
• Recalibration is difficult.
• Requires expensive wire from sensor to
recording device.
• Not as stable as RTDs.
