A 28 Y/O INDIVIDUAL EXPERIENCED GRANULOMA FORMATION ON

HIS INGUINAL AREA. AFTER CHECKING UP ON THE PHYSICIANS


IT WAS FOUND OUT THAT HE HAS LESIONS ON THE SKIN OF HIS
GENITAL AREA. UPON HAVING LAB TEST ON THE SPECIMEN
COLLECTED, IT SHOWS THAT THE MICROORGANISM IS GRAM (-)
ENCAPSULATED AND NON- MOTILE. IDENTIFY THE
MICROORGANISM.

 Characterize by the presence of enlarge


subcutaneous nodules that evolve to form beefy
erythematous granulomatous and painless lesions
that bleed easily
 Formerly known as Calymmatobacterium granulomatis
 Encapsulated, pleomorphic , Gram neg.
 Causative agent of Granuloma inguinale or Donovanosis
 Major cause of genital ulcer
 Spread through direct contact during sexual activity
 Affects the penis, scrutom,anus, labia minora, fourchette , less
often cervix and also extragenital exposure

LAB DIAGNOSIS
 Scraping of lesion stained with Wright Stain or Giemsa shows
a blue rod with prominent poral granules having a safety pin
appearance surounded by large pink capsule
 Organisms are within the mononuclear endothelial cells
known as DONOVAN BODY
