Definition of Gamma-Ray
Gamma-ray is a form of radiant energy from the
atom of nuclei emission of radioactive substances or
electromagnetic radiation produced by radioactivity or
nuclear.
Gamma-ray is often denoted by the Greek letter
gamma, (γ).

Marie Currie & Pierre (1896)
• Marie curie and her
husband Pierre worked
together to investigate the
phenomenon which is
called as “The Term
Radioactivity” . The Curries
extracted Uranium from the
Ores and they found that
left over ores showed more
activity than pure uranium .
They concluded that the
Ores contained other
“Radioactivity” element
July , 1898
• On July 1898, Curies found other element
that have term radioactivity too and its called
as Polonium , the name took by their origin
What is Uranium ?
• Uranium is naturally
radioactive element . The
isotope of Uranium (Uranium-
235) was really danger because
the high energy of the
radiation can destroys living
cells and causes burn. Lower
doses can damage internal
organs, cause anemia and
increase the risk of cancer.
HISTORY OF GAMMA RAYS (May , 1896)

Antoine Henri Becquerel

Antoine Henri Bacquerel

was born in Paris, France
on December 15, 1852.
He found that Uranium
compound had being
active radiation with very
large penetration power,
like X ray.
Ernest Rutherford (1899)
At 1899, Ernest
Rutherford made study
about radioactive light. He
put Radium in little tin
box. The light was
generated imposed on
magnetic field that very
large. Rutherford found
that the light was
separated into three parts,
Alfa (α), Beta (β), and
Gamma (γ)
Inventor (1900)
Gamma-ray was discovered by the
French chemist and physicist, Paul
Ulrich Villard in 1900, when he was
reviewing Uranium. Working in the field
of chemistry at the Ecole Normale
Superieure, Paris, he finds that gamma-
ray can not be deflected by magnetic
fields.

Preparation

Gamma rays are produced from the decay

of atomic nuclei.
Once the nucleus decays into a new
core usually there is excess energy in its
core bond that is often called the nucleus
in an excited state.
Core excess energy will usually release
energy in the form of gamma rays,
known as decay gamma rays are photons.
