Listening is the complex and selective process of
receiving, focusing, deciphering (decode), accepting and storing what we hear. An individual in business spends most of the day listening and talking. Listening plays an important role in business. Listening is learning The wise listens more than speak. STEPS IN LISTENING Five steps in listening 1. Receiving: Getting ready and physically hearing the message. 2. Focusing: Imparting due attention on the message, its contents, and the speaker with eye contact. 3. Deciphering: Decoding/analyzing the message in terms of your experience, knowledge, school of thoughts, personal background, needs. The steps includes evaluating the non verbal communication of the speaker. 4. Accepting: Trying to understand the meaning, summarizing and drawing conclusions. 5.
