• A Robot is a machine – especially programmable by a computer to carry out
complex actions automatically in the form instructions.

• Robots can be guided by an external control device or the control may be

embedded within.

• The term “Robot” comes from a Czech word, robota, meaning "forced labor“.
THE ORIGIN OF ROBOTICS

• The Foundation of Robotics was laid since the

time of Industrial Revolution.
• The notions of putting machines to work can be
credited to the great thinkers like Aristotle.
• The first Robot was created by Westinghouse
Electric Corporation that use the electric motor
for entire body motion.

ROBOTS OF OUR TIMES
• In 1997 the P1 robot was Produced by Honda which was more like
humans.
• The Capabilities Of P1 robots :-
 Walk around
 Climb stairs
 Carry things
 Pick things up
 Push things
 Position itself accurately

THE P3 ROBOT

• In 2000 Honda incorporated the P3 technology into its dancing robot ASIMO.
• Honda’s ASIMO humanoid robot works like human beings with incorporation
of 34 Degrees of Freedom.
• ASIMO humanoid robot measures 130 centimeters of height, and it weighs
exactly 54 kilograms. It has got five fingers on both hands. Each hand is
capable of carrying a weight of about 0.5 kilograms. It can walk at a speed of
2.70 kilometer / hour, and can run at 6.0 kilometer / hour
• This humanoid robot can be operated with the help of the
Portable Controller and as well as in Workstation. It
contains two control units: one is Wireless Transmission
Unit, and other is Operating Control Unit.

• ASIMO humanoid robot is powered by rechargeable 51.8

volts Li-Ion battery and can deliver up to one hour of
operating time.
ADVANTAGES OF ASIMO
• It can remember up to ten different faces, and the recorded members will be called by
their own names.
• It can provide daily news to the user by collecting information from the internet.
• It can walk on the stairs without making any damage to it and the humans going nearby.
• It can identify the distance, human movements, and more with the help of its visual
sensor (camera).
• It is capable of understanding the movements performed by the human beings. For
example, if a person points his hands toward the left direction to move, it responds
quickly.
• It can answer to the question asked by a person. Moreover, it can differentiate the
sounds such as falling of materials, human voices, etc.
HUMANOID ROBOT SOPHIA

• Sophia is the first humanoid robot who has been given the
citizenship of Saudi Arabia.
• Sophia is a social humanoid robot developed by Hong Kong
based company Hanson Robotics.
• Sophia was activated on April 19, 2015 and made her first
public appearance at South by Southwest Festival (SXSW) in
mid-March 2016 in Austin, Texas, United States.

KEY FEATURES OF SOPHIA

• Sophia is able to display more than 50 facial expressions.

• Sophia has been covered by media around the globe and has
participated in many high-profile interviews. While
interviewers around the world have been impressed by the
sophistication of many of Sophia's responses to their
questions, the bulk of Sophia's meaningful statements are
believed by experts to be somewhat scripted.
• In October 2017, the robot became a Saudi Arabian
citizen, the first robot to receive citizenship of any country.
In November 2017, Sophia was named the United Nations
Development Programme's first ever Innovation
Champion, and the first non-human to be given any
United Nations title.
HISTORY OF SOPHIA

• Sophia was created by Hanson Robotics in collaboration

with AI developers, including Google’s parent company
Alphabet Inc, who built her voice recognition system ,and
SingularityNET which powers her brain.
• Sophia was activated on April 19 , 2015.
• The robot is known for her human like appearance and
behavior compared to previous robotic varients.
• According to the manufacturer of the Robot , David
Hanson, Sophia uses artificial intelligence , visual data
processing and facial recognitions .
• Sophia also imitates human gestures and facial expressions
and is able to answer certain questions and to make simple
conversations on predefined topics (e.g. on weather).
CHANCES OF RISKS RELATED WITH SOPHIA

• Defining Identity : Citizenship is granted to unique identity . Each of us ,

humans I mean possesses a unique signature that distinguishes us from any
other human . Sophia cannot be distinguished on the basis of her voice, MAC
Address , her skin, barcode etc.
• Legal rights : Sophia is a citizen so it can vote and so the question arises is that
who takes the decision at the time of voting Sophia or the manufacturer ?
CONCLUSION

The Robots are designed by humans and they should be

used wisely , they can build our future as well as they
can destroy our future too.
