What is Finger Math?

Finger Math makes Mathematics

more interesting, enjoyable and easier in
way because the students don’t have to
memorize as much instead the students
improve their speed of using their
fingers.
It helps students who have
difficulty in understanding Mathematics
and other learning concepts by
providing the brain with visual pegs
in which to tie the memory.

MULTIPLICATION OF
WHOLE NUMBERS
USING POINTING
METHOD
Steps:
1. Count your fingers

Fingers Counting

Little Finger 16
Ring Finger 17
Middle Finger 18
Index Finger 19
Thumb Finger 20
2. Join the ends of your left and right fingers
Ex: 17 x 18

3. Join your left Ring finger (17) and your right

middle finger (18).

4. Count your joined fingers and below them

by 20.
2 + 3 = 5 x 20 = 100
5. Get the product of the number of fingers above
your joined fingers then multiply.
3 x 2=6

6. Add the products:

100 + 6 = 106

7. Add the constant number from the product:

106 + 200 = 306

The answer is 306.

Using Folding Method
in Multiplication Table 9
Example: 9x5

Steps:

1. Count your fingers from left to right. Start from

your left fingers.
2. Since 9 is multiplied by 5, fold your fifth finger. The
folded finger serves as a border. Count the number
of fingers at the left side of your folded finger by
tens and count the number of fingers at the right
side of your folded finger by ones.

So, 9 x 5 = 45
Consecutive Numbers
(from 1 up to 100 )
The value of the folded finger is zero (0).

Example: 23 x 9

a. Fold your 3rd finger.

b. The value of the folded finger is zero.
c. Count your fingers at the left side of your folded
finger by hundred and
d. By ones at the right side.
Ans: 23 x 9 = 207
Similar Numbers
( 1 up to 100 )
 The value of the folded finger is nine (9).

 Example: 55 x 9

 Fold your fifth finger.

 The value of the folded finger is nine.
 Count your fingers at the left side of your folded finger
by hundred and
 At the right side, count it by ones.

 Ans: 55 x 9 = 495
