Systemic erythematous lupus (SLE) is a complex autoimmune disease characterized by the
presence of autoantibodies to the cell nucleus and involves many organ systems in the body. More than 100 different types of autoantibodies have been reported to be found in the serum of SLE patients. Some autoantibodies that have high diagnostic specificity for SLE include anti dsDNA, anti Smith (sm) and anti ribosomal P epidemyology The World Health Organization (WHO) records the number of people with lupus in the world today at five million. Most of them are productive age women and every year more than 100 thousand new sufferers are found. Of the approximately 1,250,000 Indonesians affected by lupus (a prevalence assumption of 0.5% based on the Kalim et al study), very few realize that they suffer from lupus. This happens because the symptoms of lupus in each patient vary, depending on the clinical manifestations that appear. etiopathogenesis
