WHAT IS CULTURE?

Culture – the sum


of all the customs,
belief, traditions
and practices that
affects the person’s
way of life.
WHAT IS SOCIETY?

Society – A group of
people sharing the
same characteristics
(e.g geographical
location, belief,
practices or ambition)
WHAT IS POLITICS?

Politics – The process of


making decisions that
apply to members of a
group. An organized
control over a society.
SOCIAL BEHAVIOR

• Is a term to describe the general conduct


exhibited by individuals within a society.
• It is essentially in response to what is
deemed acceptable by a person’s peer
group or involves avoiding behavior that
is characterized as unacceptable.
POLITICAL BEHAVIOR

• The individual’s engagement in political


life such as elections, political partisan,
political dynasties, public opinion, etc.
• It also involves their behavior towards
election, political dynasties and voter’s
behavior
POLITICAL PHENOMENON

• They are political figures in history, that


perhaps because of their outstanding
achievements and qualities that made
them significantly different from the rest of
their colleagues.
• Ex: Rodrigo Duterte, Barack Obama
FOOD TABOO

• Is a prohibition against consuming/eating


certain foods.
• Food taboos are known from virtually all
human societies. Most religions declare
certain food items fit and others unfit for
human consumption.
ISTAMBAY
• Is a Tagalog term of the English version “stand-
by”
• It is a social behavior which carries a negative
connotation.
• They are considered indolent or lazy people
because instead of looking for a job or help
the family in household chores, they just hand
around in corner streets, telling stories or
“doing nothing”
POLITICAL DYNASTIES

• A political family or political dynasty is a


family in which members are involved in
politics.
• Members may be related by blood or by
marriage; often several generations or
multiple siblings may be involved.
2 TYPES OF POLITICAL DYNASTY

• Thin Dynasty (intergenerational


succession) – A political clan that only has
two members (like father and son)
swapping positions.
• Fat Dynasty (simultaneous monopoly of
seats) – Several family members occupy
government positions at the same time.
PHILIPPINE ELECTIONS

• The President, Vice-President and


Senators have six-year terms.
• The Representatives, Governors, Vice
Governors, Mayors and other local
officials have three-year terms.
• The Congress have two chambers: The
House of Representive (292 seats as of
2013) and The Senate (24 members)
PHILIPPINE ELECTIONS

• Under the Philippine Constitution, national


and local elections (except barangay
officials) should be held every second
Monday of May
• All elected officials, except those at the
barangay level, start (and end) their terms
of office on June 30 of the election year.
TEXTING
Is the act of composing and sending brief
electronic messages between two or more
mobile phones, or fixed or portable devices
over a phone network.
The term originally referred to messages
sent using the Short Message Service (SMS)
It has grown to include messages
containing image, video and sound
content – Multimedia Messaging Service
(MMS)
SELFIE
A selfie is a self-photograph, typically taken
with a digital camera or camera phone held
in the hand or supported by a selfie stick.
They are usually flattering and made to
appear casual.
Although a selfie has benefits to people
and the camera industry, there are also
harmful effects such as accidents in the form
of injury and damages as well as deaths to
selfie users.
YOUTH ACTIVISM

Youth activism is youth engagement in


community organizing for social change.
Youth participation in social change
focuses more on issue-oriented activism than
traditional partisan or electoral politics.
TRANSNATIONAL FAMILES (Families across borders)
 are families whose family members are
separated physically between two or more
nation-states but maintain close ties and
relationships (Schmalzbauer 2004)
LOCAL PUBLIC SERVICES
This is a form of service provided by local
government agencies or private companies
or the barangay people for community
development
Government and private companies have
social responsibilities to undertake as part of
their core values.
Ex: Brigada eskwela, tree planting,
beautification projects
YOUTH VOLUNTEERISM
Refers to the active and free participation
of youth in different organized activities that
aims to improve local, nation or world
community.
