Intercultural dimensions of Cyberculture

Summary:

This intervention focuses on the intercultural
predispositions accompanying the new
cultural formulas that are created or
transmitted virtually through cyberspace.
Beyond the explicit elements of openness
and cultural polymorphism, there exists also
an implicit dimension (which becomes
manifest through language, iconography,
symbolistics, or implicit technicality) that
leads to the unification of cultural.
 1.The cultural dimension of cyberspace

 The cultural environment comprises two dimensions:


the cultural objects themselves (artistic
productions, philosophies, ideologies, scientific theories,
etc.) and their disposal modalities to mediation
(radio, television, internet, etc.). Since quite a while ago,
the way of spreading cultural values became significant
for itself, a cultural “good,” as it is resonant and
coextensive with the main value.
 Culture is made not only of a sum of values, but also of
their socio-cultural generating, validating,
spreading, transmitting and perpetuating
mechanisms.
 The word cyberspace is a composite term, a
hybrid of cybernetic and space. This notion and the
corresponding reality go back to Antiquity, but it
was Norbert Wiener who consecrated them in
1948, when he defined cybernetics as the science
of control and communications for human
beings and instruments/artefacts. From this
perspective, the cyberspace may be seen as a “co-
production” and as a interrelation among
individuals, spaces and computer science
technologies.
