How does Huntington’s disease work?
● Its an genetic disease that causes the
progressive breakdown of nerve cells
in the brain.
● Huntington’s disease has a broad
impact on a person’s functional
abilities and usually results in
movement.
On what chromosome is the defective gene
located?
● A human body contains 46 chromosomes,
with 23 derived from each parent. Of these 23
pairs of chromosomes, one pair is the sex
chromosomes and the other 22 pairs are the
autosomal chromosomes.
● In Huntington’s disease the specific
chromosome involved is chromosome 4.
What are the symptoms of Huntington’s disease?
Symptoms may include: Emotional changes:
● Aggression
● Mood swings
● Anger
● Personality changes ● Antisocial behavior
● Depression ● Frustration
● Loss of memory ● Stubbornness
