FACTORS DETERMINING THE SIZE OF THE CITY
• PHYSICAL EXTENT OF THE CITY-It has an area of
649 km².The district includes Gandhinagarwith three Suburbs -
Chandkheda, Motera, Adalaj. The four tehsils are - Gandhinagar, Kalol
INA, Dahegam and Mansa - and 216 villages.

• THE NUMBER OF HABITANT OF THE CITY- a


population of 1,334,455 ACCORDING TO 2001 CENSUS.

THE DENSITY OF GANDHINAGAR IS 1,100 sq mile.


Urban pattern
The layout of the city is done a GRID PATTERN.
 The city has been divided into 30 rectangular
sectors of 75 hectare each.
 Ech sector would accommodate 7,000 people and
will have all the basic amenities in itself.
 8 categories of plots were laid ranging from
135sq/mts to 1600 sq/mts.
 Each sector had a heirarcy of about of about four
categories of private plots and government
quarters to achieve a balanced social and
economic structure.
