VIRTUAL REALITY:

• Virtual Reality (VR) is a technology which

allows a user to interact with a computer-
simulated environment.
• Virtual Reality is the illusion of 3-D
interactive computer-generated
environment, where sight, sound and
sometimes touch are simulated to create
pictures, sounds and objects which are
seems to be real.
• With VR user can explore any uncharted
territory of human imagination.
• In 1950s visionary cinematography
Morton Heilig built a single user console
called “Sensorama”.This enabled the
user to watch television in 3 dimensional
ways.
• In 1961, Philco Corporation engineers
developed the first HMD known as the
Headsight.
• In 1988, commercial development of VR
began.
• In 1991, there was the first wide-spread
commercial releases of consumer
headsets.
Immersive Virtual Reality:

• Complete immersion of user’s personal view into a virtual world .

• The user has no ability to see physical world(real world).
• User is often equipped with a Head Mounted Display (HMD).
Window on World(WOW):
• Desktop based Virtual Reality involves displaying a 3-D
visual on regular desktop.
• It is also known as Desktop VR.
• Use of a monitor to display the visual world.
• Low cost , less performance, less immersion.
Telepresence:

• Telepresence is exactly what it sounds like: tele, “at a

distance”, and presence, “being present”.
• It refers to technologies that allow a user appear to be
present, feel like they are present or have some effect in a
space the person does not physically inhabit.
• It can include video teleconferencing tools, where a picture
and audio stream is conveyed to remote location.
Binocular Omni-Orientation Monitor(BOOM):

• It is one of the oldest VR displays, and direct ancestor to the

HMD. It consists of a 3-D display device suspended from a
weighted BOOM that can rotate freely.
• It is a head-coupled stereoscopic display device.
• Convenient to use.
Head Mounted Display(HMD):

• A helmet or face mask providing the visual and auditory

displays.
• Use LCD to display stereo images.
• May include built-in head-tracker and stereo headphones.
Cave Automatic Virtual Environment(CAVE):

• Provides the illusion of immersion by projecting Stereo images on

the walls and floor of a room-sized cube.
• A head tracking system continuously adjust the stereo projection to
the current position of leading viewer.
APPLICATIONS:
• Military.
• Healthcare
• Education and Training
• Movies and Entertainment

Advantages:
• VR creates a realistic world.
• It enables user to explore places.
• VR make the education more easily and comfort.

Disadvantages:
• Equipment used in VR are very costly.
• It consists of complex technology.
Conclusion:

• VR enables us to experience virtual world that is impossible in real

world.
• VR is changing our life, eventually VR will increasingly become a
part of our life.
• Accuracy should increase and cost must decrease.
