It is used to express the desire


that something in the present
were different.
There is a sense of regret about
the past.
WISH + PAST SIMPLE

STRUCTURE:

SUBJECT + WISH SUBJECT + PAST SIMPLE / COULD

EXAMPLES:

I WISH I HAD A VESTA


THEY WISH THEY COULD TRAVEL MORE
THIRD CONDITIONAL It is used to talk about
impossibilities and situations
that can no longer happen
because it is too late.

CONDITION RESULT

If + past perfect, would (‘d) have + past participle

EXAMPLES:

If I hadn’t beaten Joe, I wouldn’t have been in jail for 10 years.

If she had gone home early, she would have had more time to sleep.

It is used to say we
regret something that
happened or did not
happen in the past
