Introduction
Used for
1. Design & analysis of gravity flow and pressure flow
through pipe network.
2. More accurate & saves time.
3. Ease in making networks, labelling.
4. Scaled drawings can be created, pipe length
automatically calculated.
5. Also import dxf. File
Terminology
 Rim elevation – Top elevtion of man hole or catch basin.
 Cover – Top access cover of man hole
 Sump – sump refers to bottom area/chamber inside of junction structure, sometimes used
as reservior to catch cebries.
 Sump depth – Distance from bottom of inside of structure to lowest invert of all pipes
connected to it. Generally man hole has no sump depth.
 Invert slope –

Design Inputs (data required)
1. Information from map
 Topography of surrounding area.
 Land elevation & contours.
 Geologic conditions ( type of sub soil, soil chemistry etc.)
2. Basic design consideration
 Waste water flow.
 Hydraulic design equation.
 Sewer material.
 Design considerations on min size & min self cleansing
velocity.
 Slope & cover Here cover refers to depth backfilling of soil
over sewer pipe from ground level.
 Elevation of alternative alignments or design.
