George W.

Bush
Post-Presidency
 Following his presidency, Bush found comfort in
returning to his ranch life, splitting time between his
two homes in Dallas and Crawford, Texas.
 While most presidents linger around politics once they
have stepped down from office, Bush was happy to be
out of the spotlight and back to a more private life.

Retirement
 While Bush refrained from the limelight once he
stepped down, he was anything but reclusive in his
hometown state.
 In his free time, Bush liked to stay active. He enjoyed
biking, golfing, and was a regular at Texas Rangers
baseball games.

 Inspired by his hero, Winston Churchill, Bush also

began painting as well. Some of his favorite images to

Hobbies paint were his pets and world leaders he’d met during
his presidency.
 Bush also worked with Southern Methodist University to
create the George W. Bush Center in Dallas.
 The George W. Bush Center includes the Bush
Presidential Library and Museum and the Bush Institute.

 The institute was designed to continue discussions

about policies for economic growth, human freedom,
education, global health, and various women’s
initiatives.

Work With SMU

 Bush has also been involved with many wide-reaching
charities.
 He has been devoted to fundraising for wounded
veterans, including an annual 100-kilometer bike ride
and the Warrior Open Golf Tournament.

 Bush also took trips to Africa, raising awareness for

cervical cancer and has been a strong advocate for
veterans who suffer from PTSD.

Charity Work
 Overall, Bush has welcomed retirement. It has allowed
him to get back to home and create lasting changes in
areas he feels most passionate about.
 When asked about his retirement, Bush responded, “I
think part of having a fulfilling life is to be challenged.
I’m challenged on the golf course, I’m challenged to
stay fit, and I’m challenged by my paintings…I am
happy.”
