UTILITY
 not physical quality of a thing in itself;
it is the want-satisfying power of an
object or service.
 Production creates Form Utility
 Marketing creates Time, Place,
and Ownership/Possession Utility

POSSESSION
FORM UTILITY
- changing raw materials or putting
them together to make them useful

Ex. The packers who slaughter the


hogs and cut them into pork
carcasses

PLACE UTILITY
- created if goods are made available
where they are wanted

ex. Having fruits and vegetables available


at the grocery stores
TIME UTILITY
- created if goods are made available
when they are most wanted

Ex. Retailers offer large supplies of


backpacks in the late summer, near
the beginning of the school year.
POSSESSION UTILITY
- created when ownership of good or
service is transferred from one person to
another, but it may also occur through
renting and borrowing.

Ex. Taking credit cards and checks rather


than just cash enables customers to buy
products
