Pleats

Pleat-is a type of fold formed by


doubling fabric back upon itself and
securing it in place. It is commonly
used in clothing and upholstery to
gather a wide piece of fabric to a
narrower circumference.
Types of Pleats
Knife Pleats
A type sharply pressed
pleating,especially in a skirt or kilt,in
which all the folds are turned in one
direction,with each pleat being
three layers of fabric thick.
Accordion Pleats
A series of permanent folds
of equal width in alternating
opposite directions made in
fabric,paper or other material.
Box Pleats
It is a pleat consisting of two
parallel creases facing opposite
directions and forming a raised
section in between.
Inverted Pleat
It is a pleat formed by bringing
two folded edges toward or to a
center point on the outside of the
material to form a box pleat on
the inside.
