VASCULAR TISSUE

Is a complex conducting
tissue,formed of more
than one cell type,
foundin vascular plants.
The primary components
of vascular tissue are the
xylem and phloem
PRIMARY COMPONENTS OF
VASCULAR TISSUE

XYLEM AND PHLOEM

XYLEM consists of two types of cells
known as Tracheids and vessel elements.
Tracheids and th vessel elements from
tube-shaped structures that provide
pathways for water and minerals to travel
from the roots to the leaves .While
tracheids are fund in vascular plants, vessels
are only in ONGIOSPERMS
PHLOEM is composed mostly of cells
called sieve-tube cells and companion
cells. These cells assits in the
transport of sugar and nutrients
produced during photosynthesis from
the leaves to other parts of the
plant.While tracheid cells are non-
living,sieve-tube and companion cells
of the phloem are living comparison
cells possess a nucleus and actively
transport sugar into and out of
sieve-tube.
XYLEM
Carries water and nutrients
that enter the stem out to all
parts of the leaf.
PHLOEM
runs parallel to the xylem and
carries sugar that is produced in
the leaves,disolved in fluid, to
all parts of the plant.
CHARACTERISTICS OF VASCULAR
TISSUE

• Consists of traecheids and

xylem vessels. These are long
tubes joined together end to
end, from the roots right up of
the shoots
CHARACTERISTICS OF VASCULAR
TISSUE

• The cell walls of the xylem are

thickened with lignin which
prevent food substances from
entering the cells.
Consquently, the xylem tissue
dies upon rating maturity
Conducts water and minerals from
the roots to the leaves.

Provides support and mechanical

strength to the plant
