throughout the tropics where it is grown. It is popular because of its flavour, food value, and availability at all times of the year and considered as one of the major crops in the Philippines. However, banana plants have been infected by several plant pathogens. Is there an inhibition on the growth of the Fusarium sp that infests in banana (Musa balbisiana) using Duranta leaf extracts?
Is there a significant difference in the zone
of inhibition of the different concentrations of Duranta leaf extracts against Fusarium? Is there a significant difference between the different concentrations of the Duranta leaf extracts and that of the positive control against Fusarium?
What is the degree of effectiveness of
the different concentrations of Duranta leaf extracts? Farmers. This study aims to the banana farmers to lessen their problem about this Fusarium sp. in banana (Musa balbisiana) by not using harmful pesticides which can destroy our environment.
Market. This study aims in markets that prices
of bananas will decrease and it will help for the increase rate of banana reproduction in our agricultural economy. Economy. The agricultural sector is the largest contributor in the country’s economy, so that any big changes can greatly affect the economy. This study aims to help in cheapening the agri-products and be one of the contributors in the improvement of the economy. Environment. The use of harmful pesticides possesses a great danger to the environment. This study aims to help and lessen the use of harmful commercialized fertilizer which is more expensive than the natural ones. This study also aims in improving the production rate of plants at the same time being more environment-friendly. Consumers. This study aims to improve the plant form so that good products will be produced and the food intake of consumers will not be affected. A larger market of healthy and organic products for their choice will be available. Independent Variable Dependent Variable
Concentration of Diameter of Zone
Duranta (Duranta of inhibition of erecta cv. Aurea) Fusarium sp Leaf extracts After reading the given zone of inhibitions of different treatments, getting the mean and rating of each treatment is next. Mean zone of inhibition of each treatment Degree of Effectiveness (Science Resource Center, UIC, 2013
TREATMENTS MEAN Degree of effectiveness
100%Duranta 20.0000 Very Active
75% Duranta 20.0000 Very Active
50% Duranta 19.1111 Active
100% Mancozeb 13.6667 Slightly Active
Based on the results, it is possible for the Duranta Leaf extract to inhibit the growth of the Fusarium sp which caused the Fusarium wilt on the banana (Musa balbisiana). The average zone of inhibition made by different treatments. For the group of Duranta extract which is 100% is 20.0000. For the group of Duranta extract which is 75% is still 20.0000. For the group of Duranta extract which is 50% is 19.1111. And for the average zone of inhibition of the positive control group is (Mancozeb) is 13.6667. Based on the Degree of effectiveness and the calculations made. The concentrations 100% and 75% Duranta leaf extract were rated as Very Active. The 50% Duranta leaf extract was rated as Active, while the Mancozeb was rated as Slightly Active. Given with the average zone of inhibitions of each treatments, the significant difference is calculated. The significant difference of the treatments are shown in the table of Post Hoc tests.
Based on the table and calculations made on the POST
HOC tests, there is no significant difference if you will use any of the concentrations of the 100%, 75% and 50% of the Duranta extract compared to the Mancozeb.
