GAMABA AWARDS
Also known as:
National Living Treasures Award
- conferred to a person or group of artists recognized by the
Government of the Philippines for their contributions to the
country's intangible cultural heritage.
- adopts a program that will ensure the transfer of their skills to
others
- undertakes measures to promote a genuine appreciation of
traditional craft and art
- Institutionalized through Republic Act No. 7355.

AWARDEES
Lang Dulay
- a T'boli from Lake Sebu, South Cotabato
- produced creations which remain faithful
to the T’boli tradition as manifested in the
complexity of her design, fineness of
workmanship and quality of finish
- awarded for weaving the abaca ikat cloth
called t'nalak
SALINTA MONON
- A Tagabawa Bagobo from Bansalan,
Davao del Sur
- awarded for fully demonstrating the
creative and expressive aspects of the
Bagobo abaca ikat weaving called inabal
at a time when such art is threatened with
extinction

- A Tausug from barangay Parang, Jolo
Island, Sulu province
- awarded for her dedication to her art,
enhancing the preservation of traditional
Tausug designs
- remained faithful to the art of pis syabit
weaving
HADJA AMINA API
- A Sama from Ungos Matata, Tandubas,
Tawi-Tawi
- recognized as the master mat weaver
among the Sama indigenous community
of Ungos Matata
- respected throughout her community for
her unique designs, the straightness of her
edging (tabig) and the fineness of her
sasa and kima-kima

MAGDALENA GAMAYO
- An Ilocano from Pinili, Ilocos Norte
- recognized as the master mat weaver in
Ilocos Norte
- taught herself the traditional patterns of
binakol, inuritan (geometric design),
kusikos (spiral forms similar to oranges),
and sinan-sabong (flowers)
- her blankets have a very high thread count
and her designs are the most intricate and
can sometimes take up to five colors.
AMBALANG AUSALIN
- A Yakan from Parangbasak, Lamitan City,
Basilan
- able to bring forth all designs and
actualize all textile categories typical to the
Yakan.
- possesses the complex knowledge of the
entire weaving process, aware at the
same time of the cultural significance of
each textile design or category
- Renowned for weaving bunga sama,
sinalu’an and seputangan

- A Blaan from Upper Lasang, Malapatan,
Sarangani
- Called “Princess” with genuine respect
from other mat weavers
- maintains the clarity in her eyes, the
stillness of her mien, and her precise
physical movements whether weaving, or
discussing, or just listening
- Her alertness, focus and calmness made
her able to understand mat weaving itself
YABING MASALON DULO
- A Blaan from Landan, Polomolok, South
Cotabato
- Continued deploying her gift of expertly
making fine warp ikat textiles
- Recognized for her commitment to the
safeguarding and promotion of the Blaan
mabal tabih (ikat weaving) tradition.
- Mastered the five types of Blaan Tabih
