Short Story
Loglines
• is a one or two sentence
description or summary of your
short story, its core, its essence.
• It is usually the main issue in a
short story.
• It tells the overall idea of the story.
How to create a
logline?
• The formula for a logline is this:

• Your character + a descriptor + an event


+ conflict = LOGLINE
• Example:
• Logline of ‘’A Rose for Emily” by William
Faulkner.
• LOGLINE: A lonely Southern woman is found
dead and decaying in her home after being
abandoned by her lover.
• Logline of “Titanic”
• LOGLINE: A young man and woman from
different social classes fall in love aboard an
ill-fated voyage at the sea.
Example:
1. A journey of self-discovery by a brilliant
mathematician once he was diagnosed with
schizophrenia. He eventually triumphs over
tragedy and receives the Nobel Prize.
2. A minister’s wife confronts her long buried
past when her illegitimate daughter shows
up for twenty years.
