Meaning of Career:
A career is a sequence of positions or jobs held by a
person during the course of working life.

Definition of Career:
According to Edwin B. Flippo, “ Career is a sequence of
separate but related work activities that provides
continuity, order and meaning to a person’s life”.

From an individuals point of view career planning is the


systematic process by which an individual selects his career
goals and the paths to achieve these goals.

Basically, career planning is an individual’s responsibility.


Nowadays, professional organization’s consider career planning
as their responsibility. Therefore, career planning becomes a
joint responsibility of the individual employee and that of the
organization. The basic aim of career planning is integration of
individual and organizational needs.

According to Schermerborn, Hunt and Osborn, “ Career
planning is a process of systematically matching career goals
and individual capabilities with opportunities for their
fulfillment ”.
