THE

COMPOSITION
OF EARTH’S
INTERIOR
THE CRUST
•Is the thinnest and outer most layer
of the earth
•It has a thickness of 32-72
kilometers
•Composes of continental and
oceanic crust
THE CRUST
•It is mainly made up of OXYGEN,
SILICON, ALUMINUM, IRON,
CALCIUM, SODIUM, POTASSIUM,
MAGNESIUM, TITANIUM AND
HYDROGEN
THE CRUST
•Crust consist of two layers of rock:
Granite, composes the upper layer
and can only be found in continental
crust. Basalt, composes the layer
below the granite and can be found
both in continental and oceanic crust.
THE MANTLE
•is about 2900 kilometers thick
•Makes up about 80% of the Earth’s
total volume and 68% of its total
mass
THE MANTLE
•It composes mainly of the elements:
SILICON, OXYGEN, IRON, AND
MAGNESIUM
THE MANTLE
•The high temperature and pressure
in the mantle allows the solid rock to
flow slowly
THE MANTLE
•ASTHENOSPHERE, is the soft, weak
layer just below the lithosphere that
facilitates the movement of the
lithospheric plates.
THE CORE: outer
•Composes of outer and inner core
•Outer core is 2250 km thick and is
made up of molten IRON and NICKEL
•Outer core’s temperature reaches up
to 2000 C.
0
THE CORE: inner
•It has a radius of 1300 km
•Its temperature reaches at about
5000 C0

•Made up of solid IRON and NICKLE.
