How kids grow -

 Infant : birth to 1 year old


 Toddle r: 1 year old to 2 years old – mobility increases –
by the end of this stage they walk, run and jump,
recognizes themselves in mirror and pictures, mimics
others

 Gross Motor Development – running, jumping,
balancing, climbing, throwing and catching.
 Developmental Milestone for Preschoolers:
 Stop, start and change directions
 Walk up and down stairs with alternating feet.
 Balance on a beam.
 Hop 10 times on one foot.
 Swing on a swing by themselves.
Physical Development
 Fine Motor Development: Using small muscles to draw,
zip, cut with scissors, snap, tie and mold with clay.
 Fine Motor skills Milestones:
 Hold a pencil
 Write letters
 Draw a picture
 Cut with scissors
 String beads
 Button large buttons
 Zip a zipper
 Eat with a fork and spoon
Physical Development
 Preschooler need:
 Food – Good
nutrition
 Sleep - 8 to 10
hours
Cognitive Development
 Brain development
 Perception-based thinking – child cannot use logic
to correct a misconception ( they can be fooled)
 Unidimensional thought - child cannot multitask.
 Irreversibility – child does not realize some
processes can be undone.
 Transductive Reasoning – when a child makes up
cause and effects. (Like they caused the rain)
 Egocentrism – Inability to think like someone else.
