DIAGNOSIS

• Presence of obsessions, compulsive, or both


• Time consuming (>1 hour per day) / cause impairment in social,
occupational
• Symptoms are not attributable to the physiological effects of
substances (ex : drug abuse) or another medical conditions
• The disturbance is not better explained by the symptoms of another
mental disorder (e.g., excessive worries, as in generalized anxiety
disorder; preoccupation with appearance, as in body dysmorphic
disorder , trichotilomania, etc)

If true OCD is suspected, the use of a few simple screening


questions can be helpful
