SELF-ESTEEM

• Self-esteem is the opinion you hold

about yourself. It is who you believe
you are.
• It involves self-image, self-value, and
many other attitudes that you will build
about yourself throughout your
lifetime.
• Self-esteem is one of the most
important psychological needs in your
life.
• Self-esteem is a matter of experiencing
different feelings, and knowing that you
are competent for living in your reality,
and that you deserve happiness.
• True self-esteem is not something that
depends on the approval of those around
you. Of course, it is natural to want other
people to have good opinions of you.
However, this is not the real deciding factor
for building self-esteem. Only you can give
yourself self-esteem.
WHERE DOES SELF-ESTEEM
COME FROM? It is based on many different elements
in your life. These include:
• The value you believe you have as a
person
• Your achievements
• Your purpose in life
• The job you have in your life
• The way you believe others see you
• Your situation in life
• Your strengths and weaknesses
• Your social status and relations with
others
IMPORTANCE OF SELF-ESTEEM

Self-esteem is important because it heavily

influences people's choices and decisions. In
other words, self-esteem serves a
motivational function by making it more or
less likely that people will take care of
themselves and explore their full potential.
