Maternal health refers to the health


of women during pregnancy, childbirth and the
postpartum period.

WORLD’S PROBLEM
Every day in 2015, about 830 women
died due to complications of pregnancy and
child birth.

The risk of a woman in a
developing country dying from a
maternal-related cause during her lifetime is

about 33 times higher compared to a


woman living in a developed country.
• About 98-99% maternal and perinatal mortality
occurred in developing country.
• The contribution of maternal and children mortality rate
is pretty high, that is maternal mortality
390/100.000 labors and perinatal
mortality about 400/100.000 live
births.
MATERNAL HEALTH IN INDONESIA
Perinatal mortality is 400/100.000
live births or about 200.000 neonates a
year, so that perinatal mortality is occurred in

every 1,2- 1,5 minute (Manuaba, 2007).


Maternal mortality is about

165.000-170.000 people/year or

occurred in every 2,0-2,5 minute.

The major direct causes of
maternal morbidity and mortality include
haemorrhage, infection, high blood
pressure, unsafe abortion, and obstructed
labour.

CAUSA
East Java is included in 10 areas with the
highest MMR and IMR in Indonesia. Maternal

mortality rate in East Java on 2013 adalah

97,39/100.000 live births, and on 2014 93,52 /

100.000 live births.

MATERNAL HEALTH IN SURABAYA


Ironically, the area of highest contributor to maternal

mortalality rate is Surabaya with 49 cases of maternal death

(East Java Provincial Health Office, 2014).

On 2010, there are 16 cases of maternal mortality in Surabaya, then

increased to 47 cases of maternal mortality on 2011 and

60 cases on 2012.
