 Heliocentric Universe
 De Revolutionibus Orbiun
Celestium (On the
Revolutions
of the Heavenly Spheres)
 Idea was opposed by the

Copernican Model Explained
 Mercury and Venus were inferior planets, which explained why
they are always seen near the Sun.
 Retrograde motion was a natural phenomenon of one planet
passing another planet as they orbited the Sun.
 In this model, Copernicus explains the rise and the setting of
thesun, movements of the stars and the cycle of season as well.
 This model position the sun at the center of the universe
motionless with earth and the other planets orbiting around it
 Triple Motion of Earth a. Daily Rotation about its center
 b. Annual Motion around the sun
 c. Conical Motion of its axis of Rotation
The reason the stars appeared is earth is moving,
rotating to its own axis once every 24 hours.
All planets revolve around the sun was reinforced by
the unique characteristics of the sun.
Copernicus has no
clue what stars
actually are or how
far they are away
Copernican Model
