semantics is a study of language and its meaning. As a
word, semantics was first used by Michel Breal, a french
philologist in 1883, and can be used to describe how
words can have different meanings for different people,
due to their experiential and emotional backgrounds.
semantics is a branch of linguistics that deals with the
study of meaning, changes in meaning and the
principles that govern the relationship between
sentences or words and their meanings.
Naming.
Concepts.
Reference.
reference deals with the relationship between the linguistics element( word, sentence, etc)
and the non-linguistics world of experience or referent.
Sense
sense relates to the complex system of relationship that hold between the linguistics elements
themselves: it is concerned only with linguistics item.
The word.
dictionaries appear to concern with seating the meaning of words
and it is reasonable to assume that the word is one of the basic units
of semantics
Sentence.
the traditional definition of sentence is “ the expression of a
complete thought” the sentence is essentially a grammatical unit;
indeed is the function of syntax to describe the structure of the
sentence and thereby to define it.
semantics the area of linguistics study that concerns itself with the study of meaning is a complex
aspect in language study.
constitutes the more traditional approach to semantics which can be traced back to Aristotle and
assume that it is possible to categories words ( or concepts).
2.structural semantics is the study of relationship between the meaning of terms within a sentence and
how meaning can be composed from smaller elements.
