Definition and Role Of Citizenship
• CITIZENSHIP means membership in the community or
society
• Role of citizenship
• According to Mabini, like Jose Rizal, all Filipinos should
assert their rights as free citizens of the republic.
• To attain this objective, there should be political
freedom so we can establish our own government which
is free from the control of outside force like China, US,
and other countries
The Need for Radical Change
• According to Mabini, social change can only be achieved
through:
• Radical institutional change
• Personal change
• means change the way Filipinos think and live
• Mabini said there should be “internal and external revolution”
as stated in his Decalogue.
• This is necessary in order to establish a more solid basis for
moral education and remove all the bad things we learned/
inherited from the Spaniards
Concept of Man and Society
• Mabini calls man as a creation of God who possess
inalienable rights called natural rights ( cannot be
transferred)
• Ex. Right to life
• Man is by nature good and just and have the capacity
to unfold his goodness and sense of justice to others
• Mabini defined the society as an organization
instituted for mutual help so that each could enjoy the
highest possible well being
