What is toaster? A device that is used to make a toast
A toaster is an electric small
appliance designed to expose various types of sliced bread to radiant heat, browning the bread so it becomes toast. (Source: Wikipedia.org) How does it works? 1. It use radiation to heat some piece of bread. 2. The coil inside is producing infrared radiation. When electricity flows through the wires, the energy is transferred from one end of the wire to another, and thus produces infrared radiations. 3. The radiation from the coil gently dries the surface of the bread What happen inside 1. Electrical energy flows into the toaster from a wire plugged into the domestic electricity supply. 2. The electric current flows through a series of thin filaments connected together but spaced widely enough apart to toast the whole bread surface. 3. The filaments are so thin that they glow red hot when the electricity flows through them. 4. Like a series of small radiators, the filaments beam heat toward the bread in the toaster. 5. The steady supply of heat rapidly cooks the bread. There are filaments on each wall of the toaster so the two sides of the bread cook at the same time. How Does Toaster know When To Switch Them Off? 1. Timer 2. Thermostats - It is a mechanical, electrical, or electronic device that switches an electric circuit on or off to keep something at a constant temperature. A bimetal-strip thermostat is fit very close to a toaster’s heating element. It will heat up as the bread cooks and the metals will expand by the different amounts, so the thermostat will gradually bend into a curve. When the right temperature is reached, it will bend enough to snap open and switch off the toaster’s heating element. 3. Pop-up - When timers and thermostat switch off a toaster, they generally release a spring that pops up the metal cage holding your toast. It is safer to get your toast once it is popped up as the inner part of it would be too hot.
