Constitutionalism is limited government under a constitution. A


constitutional government is one whose powers are effectively
limited by law, limited by the fundamental law of the Constitution.

The central purpose of constitutionalism is to limit governmental


power, to check and restrain the persons who hold public office
and exercise political authority.
