What Are Adjectives?

An adjective is a word which typically modifies a noun and denotes a temporary or permanent
quality associated with that noun. Adjectives are words that describe the qualities of something.
Some adjectives in English are gradable – that means you can have different degrees or levels
of that quality.
Tokyo is a large city.

About Extreme Adjectives

Extreme adjectives or non-gradable adjectives are words that mean “extremely + adjective” – for
example, “freezing” means “extremely cold.” The weather can’t be “a little bit freezing” or “very
freezing” – because the word “freezing” itself automatically means “extremely cold.”
Adjectives of quality:
Adjectives of quality refer to the kind or quality of a person or
thing. They answer the question: ‘of what kind?’
Adjectives of quantity:
Adjectives of quantity answer the question ‘how much?’.
Examples are: some, any, much, little, enough, all, no, half,
whole etc.

Kinds os Adjectives of number:


Adjectives of number answer the question ‘how many’.
Adjectives Examples are: many, one, two, first, tenth, all etc.
Demonstrative adjectives:
Demonstrative adjectives answer the question ‘which?’.
Examples are: this, that, these, those and such.
Interrogative adjectives:
When they are used with nouns to ask questions, the
questions words what, which and whose are called
interrogative adjectives.
