Hau -de-chausses
It is a fashion that comes from the coats (or jackets) that men wore under
Louis XII.
The 1550s- Breeches

It is formed of vertical bands and puffed cloth

placed inside.
The 1560s- increase and extension (at the level of the dimensions),bloating
(at the level of the form), and duplication of the bands (at the level of the composition).
The 1560s- spherical shape
The 1570s In France
In response to the round and oval lines of the 1560s, the kits flatten out at
the lower level and take a trapezoidal shape .
The breeches are encased as a puzzle piece under the doublet that projects prominently
downwards; it is the doublet with panseron . Tightened at the waist, but billowing in spades on
the front, the doublet gives the bust of the man a wasp look that reinforces the packed and
narrow shape of the breeches.
The main evolution of the 1590s is the expansion of the kits. Fashion returns to sizes that recall
the trends of the years 1570-1575 (cyclical renewal of fashion).

1590 England
There is also a particular type of breeches,
covering in one piece the upper thighs,
including at the level of the fry. This is called
boulevard (or boulevart ).
Spanish Europe
Italy The tendency to lengthen the breeches is brought to its climax in Italy, a country
then dominated by the Spaniards; kits go down almost to the knees.
France – 1610 Louis XIII
England - shorter sizes and more trapezoidal shapes.
Spain and Italy, the fashion of the breeches with the line vertical endures.
French kits keep their horizontal shape. The lower stop is more rounded and the
lining more padded; these provisions give it a more curved and convex shape
