CONTEXT
 Sharma Industries started in 1970s , initially in making pipe and
glass for industrial houses.
 It started operating in three sectors i.e. Industrial Products,
Consumer products & Electronics
 Sharma industries’ headquarter was at Bangalore which dealt with
the Corporate Relations, Public Affairs, Finance and acquisitions and
other administrative functions
 The major problems of SI were :
 Autonomous operations of individual units made it difficult to
consolidate financial reports worldwide
 Local projects and profits received more time and resources
than did projects that benefited SI globally
 No transfer of technology, new ideas or other innovations within
SI
2
ALTERNATIVES (SOLUTION)

 First Alternative
 To set up a new international department at HQ,
Bangalore
 To assign a product director for major product line

 Second Alternative
 Reorganize into a world wide product structure
 All subsidiaries world wide would report to the
product line manager

3
DESICION
Sharma Industries should go with Worldwide Product Structure because:
 It will provide better management control over subsidiaries which will
help in adopting of different strategies
 Higher Synergies for SI

 Reduction in manufacturing cost

 Uniform commission structure improving the Supply Chain

Management process, enhancing dealers network, shortening
delivery time for SI.
