1. How does each institution work in
society according to structural-
functionalism based on the activity?
2. How important are the social
functions of social structure to the
stability of society?
MANIFEST FUNCTION - the
recognized and intended
consequences of any social pattern.
LATENT FUNCTION - unrecognized
and unintended consequences of
any social pattern.(Macionis
2007,15).
SOCIAL FUNCTIONS
-consequences of any social pattern
for the operation of society as a
whole”( Macionis 2007)
SOCIAL DYSFUNCTION - any social
pattern that may disrupt the operation
of society.
CAUSES OF DYSFUNCTION

• Lack of consensus among

peoples in a given polity or society
about what is is helpful or harmful
to society is a key feature of every
society.

manifest and latent function of
the structured assigned to them.
After the discussion, the group
leader will share what they have
discussed within the group.
