Lean Manufacturing

Goals
 Produce more product using current resources
 Lower our room inventory
 Accurately forecast exactly how long it takes to make our product and ship
them on time
What is lean?
Lean is a concept that was introduced by Toyota in 1990
Lean manufacturing is a methodology that focuses on minimizing waste within
manufacturing systems while simultaneously maximizing productivity.
Lean is based on a number of specific principles, of continuous improvements
Lean Implements a Pull System rather than a Push System, i.e. the production is
according to the demands of the customers.
Lean Manufacturing is, therefore, all about the optimizing processes and
eliminating waste.
Five principles of lean manufacturing
1. Identify Value From Customer’s Perspective
2. Map the Value Streams
3. Create Flow
4. Establish a Pull System
5. Continuous Improvements
Waste of Lean Manufacturing
1. Unnecessary transportation
2. Excess Inventory
3. Unnecessary Motion of People, equipment or machinery.
4. Waiting/ Idle time
5. Overproduction
6. Over-Processing
7. Defects
8. Workforce efficiency
