physical fitness with purpose of
increasing physical fitness level.
Physical Fitness

5 Components
of Fitness
1. Aerobic Capacity
It is the ability of the heart and lungs fuel
your body with the oxygen needed by
your muscles, ensuring that they have the
oxygen needed for the work they are
doing.
Example activities
running, jogging,
swimming, and cycling.
2. Muscular Strength
This is the "power" that helps you to lift
and carry heavy objects. Without muscular
strength, your body would be weak and
unable to keep up with the demands
placed upon it.
Example activities
Weight Lifting
3. Muscular Endurance
Endurance is the ability of your muscles to
perform contractions for extended periods
of time. Rather than just lifting or carrying
something for a few seconds, the muscles
are used for minutes.
Example activities
Push-ups and Curl-ups
4. Flexibility
Flexibility training ensures that your body
can move through its entire range of
motion without pain or stiffness.
Example activities
Sit and Reach, Trunk Forward
Flexion.
5. Body Fat Composition
Body fat composition refers to the amount of fat
on your body.
Uses 2 component model: Lean Body Mass and
Body Fat
 For example, a 100-pound person with a 25%
body fat composition will have a lean body mass
of 75 pounds.
IMPORTANCE OF AN ACTIVE LIFESTYLE
 Reduces the Risk of Dying Prematurely - Those living a healthy
active lifestyle live longer compared those who are more
sedentary.

 Lowers the risk of developing diabetes - Exercise keeps body

fat in control and helps regulate sugar levels

 Increase muscular strength - Having an increase in strength helps

make daily activities less difficult.
Helps reduce the risk of heart disease - Regular
exercise strengthens the heart, respiratory system,
and lungs which aids to reduce the risk of heart
disease.

Decreases Body Fat - Exercise along with a

balanced diet will reduce body fat significantly.
