THE VICTORIAN PERIOD
 Named after the ruling queen of that
period, alexandrian victoria (1837-1901).
 It is considered as the “second renaissance
period”.
 It is when alice’s adventures in wonderland
was published.
Positive events that took place during the
time:
• artists, writers and poets flourished;
• many social, religious and political
movements started;
• border expansion and political reforms.
Two great poets of the victorian period:
1. Alfred Lord Tennyson
- He was a poet laurette(an honorary
position appointed by the monarch) of
britain and ireland.
- Writer of Ulysses
2. Robert Browning
- He was an english poet and playwright
whose mastery of the dramatic monologue
made him one of the foremost
victorian poets.
- Writer the long poem Pauline and
Paracelsus, and the difficult narrative poem,
Sordello.
- Husband of Elizabeth Barrett.
