Novel is particularly applicable to a

long work of prose fiction dealing

with characters, situations and
scenes that represent those of
real life and setting and action in
the form of a plot.
Novels, like the other genres, have
important elements such as
setting, plot, characters, theme and
at times a moral lesson.
The setting of a novel
covers the time, place
and the background.
The plot is the skeleton or
framework which gives
shape and proportion to
the novel.
The theme of the novel is
compared to the subject
of a painting.
The characters are the
moving spirit of the novel.
