THE SYMPTOMS OF A INTELLECTUAL
DISABLE CHILD.
 SYMPTOMS.
 Symptoms appear when a child is approaching school age and the
most common ones are:
 Talking late
 Behaviour problems
 Slow in mastering things
 Explosive tantrums
 Walking late
 Difficulty remembering things
 Seizures
 Mood disorders
 Anxiety disorders
 Hearing...
ADAPTABLE BEHAVIOUR
 LACK OF MATURITY
The child is not that matured as a normal child, the child is not aware what
their doing as per to their maturity.
 PERSONAL INDEPENDENT
The child needs to be dependent on whatever task they are given then
only the child will understand how to be independent on his own.
 SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY
It means that the responsibility given to a child like a particular object if I
say that you are responsible of this thing awareness should be there.
 HAVING DIFFICULTY IN LEARNING
It will take time for them to learn because of their thinking level and also will
need to check what problem their facing through like talking about the IQ
level.
What is the meaning of IQ level &
What is MR & MI ?
 It means if the IQ level is below 70 % the child is intellectually disable.
 MR means if the child is committed with an accident below the age
of 18 years then he is into mental retardation because some of his
brain must not be functioning.
 MI means if the child is committed with an accident above the age
of 18 years then he is into mental illness.
CLASSIFICATION OF INTELLECTUAL
DISABILTY

 Mild ID: IQ level = 55 – 70.


 Moderate ID: IQ level = 40 – 54
 Severe ID: IQ level = 25 – 39
 Profound ID: IQ level = below 25

No Body Can Have ‘0’ Score In An IQ Test.


Mild ID: IQ level = 55 – 70.

 Educational and trainable.


 People with mild intellectual disability will be able to listen and
speak effectively.
 They can carry on conversation.
 They will have some difficulty in abstract conversation.
 They can have open employment.
Moderate ID: IQ = 40 - 54

 They can have simple conversation.


 Support needs to be given in open employment.
 In academics they may do well in taught functional academics
(Academics Required for Day to Day Functions of the life).
Severe ID: IQ = 25 - 39

 They can understand simple conversation because of their limited


verbal skills.
 They may need non verbal methods, to communicate, use of signs,
symbols, gestures.
 They may work in a sheltered employment (1 supervisor for 6-7
people, task is broken down like assembly line).
For Eg. Counting and packing a set of 10 profound.
Profound ID: IQ = 25

 Very little communication or sometimes no communication at all.


 Non Verbal sounds may be produced .
 There is no effective speech.
 The focus for them should be on Sitting position, Attending, Motor
skills like walking, climbing, standing, jumping, chewing etc.
 Any type of employment is not possible but repetitive task may be
given.
