NATURAL VEGETATION OF INDIA

WHAT IS NATURAL VEGETATION?

• The plants that grow naturally depending upon soil, temperature, and rainfall .
• without intervention of human beings.
• For example : forests and grasslands

Types of Natural vegetation


• Tropical Evergreen forest
• Tropical deciduous forest
• Mangroove forest
• Thorny Vegetation
TROPICAL EVERGREEN FOREST

• Tropical Evergreen forest needs more than 200 cm of rainfall annually.


• The forest looks greenery throughout the year.
• No particular season – when all the trees shed their leaves.
• This type of vegetation is heterogeneous in nature.
• This type of vegetation is dominated in the regions west coast of India, North East India,
Andaman and Nicobar.
• Example: Mahogany, Ironwood tree, Ebony etc.
TROPICAL DECIDUOUS FOREST

• This type of vegetation needs 70- 200 cm of rainfall.


• At a particular season Majority of the tree shed their leaves and the whole forest looks
like scanty vegetation.
• This type of vegetation is homogenous in nature.
• Teak, sal, sandalwood are some of the trees dominate in this type of vegetation.
THORNY VEGETATION

• This type of vegetation is possible even in less amount of rainfall.


• Rajasthan and interior deccan is dominated by thorny vegetation.
• Cactus, dates palm are some of plant species found.
MANGROVE FOREST

• Mangrove forest are dominated in the regions sundarban deltas.


• This type of vegetation is seen in swampy or Marsh lands.
• Sundari trees are grown dominantly.
