OF SERVING THE LORD Train a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not turn from it. Proverbs 22:6 This is the fifth church that we are studying in this series. There are seven churches that Jesus examines, and tries to keep pure and right. The first four churches dealt with: Ephesus - Keeping our First Love, First • Smyrna – Staying faithful, consistent, dependable as Christians • Pergamos – A Worldly church needed to repent of compromise • Thyatira – Purifying an Impure Church • Today we want to look at the needs of the fifth church – Sardis. A church in a city of Asia minor (modern Turkey) • Here's a church that is a dead church, and yet it has a reputation for being a “living” church. • They had a reputation for being alive, but are dead now. • The membership in this church must grow, and yet they were not growing! v. 3 Remember therefore how you have received and heard; hold fast and repent. Therefore if you will not watch, I will come upon you as a thief, and you will not know what hour I will come upon you. be observant – pay close attention Every time we attend our church gathering let us allow the word of GOD to examine ourselves. v. 7 But the Lord said to Samuel, "Do not consider his appearance or his height, for I have rejected him. The Lord does not look at the things man looks at. Man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the Rev.3:2 (NKJV) Be watchful, and strengthen the things which remain, that are ready to die, for I have not found your works perfect before God. v. 3 Remember therefore how you have received and heard; hold fast and repent. Therefore if you will not watch, I will come upon you as a thief, and you will not know what hour I will come upon you.
