PURPOSE

Develop a framework for understanding how an


individual's personality can be liable to him/her
to engage in self-defeating behaviour that will
result in self-management failure.
METHODOLOGY
Identifies six behaviours that are likely to damage the ability of individuals to reach
their goals and targets –

• Procrastination
• inaccurate self-assessment
• self-handicapping
• inability to delay gratification
• emotional self-absorption
• escalation of commitment.
FINDINGS

Understanding the role of personality and self-


defeating behaviour in self-management failure
could offer a way of intervening in poor job
performance.
