Modeling and Simulation in

Research Methodologies
Learning Objectives
• To understand the importance of modeling and
simulation in any research
• To come up with an appropriate model
• To link the model with the actual design
• To simulate the model for providing an insight of
the research problem.
• To understand the simulated result
Objectives of Modeling

• Developing scientific understanding

– -through quantitative expression of current
knowledge of a system (as well as
displaying what we know, this may also
show up what we do not know);
• Test the effect of changes in a system;
• Aid in decision making
Why do we need a model?
• True representation of a real situation
are rare now-a-days.
• Majority of applications usually involve
approximation.
• The assumed real world is derived using
the dominant variables in the real
system.
• In order to design a model we should
consider the main variables in the real
system.
How it is done?
What next?

• MATHEMATICAL MODEL
