As far as the Electro magnetic Spectrum is concerned
Frequency increases , Energy increases.
x – rays and gamma rays posses high energy
• Electromagnetic waves require no medium for travel, They can travel in vacuum.
• They consist of electric and magnetic fields vibrating transversely and sinusoidal at
right angles to each other and to the direction of propagation.
• The energy of electromagnetic radiations is confined to small indivisible
packets or photons, each of which has an energy
E= hf.
Where
h = Planks constant
f = frequency

• The energies of x – rays and gamma rays are more conveniently measured in
electron volts (eV) rather than Joules (J).
• 1eV is the energy acquired by an electron in falling freely through a potential
difference of 1 volt.

• 1eV = 1.602 x 10-19 J.
