How does Slope

relate to you?

To us? To our families? To our

friends?
Let’s look at our school...

Everyone should have the following materials on your tables:

- Measuring Tape
- Two Clipboards
- Data worksheet
- Pens

We are going to take these materials outside our classroom!

We have steps very similar to
these in front of our office.
Although we have other means of
getting into the office (side door or
side gate), suppose we propose
building a ramp for more
accessibility to the door…
Task 1 - If we wanted a ramp to the
door, what would you need to
measure?
- Think-pair-share.
- Whole class discussion (why?)

(Office Door)
Task 2 - If we wanted a ramp to the
door, what would you need to
measure?
- Think-pair-share.
- Whole class discussion (why?)

(School Psychologist Door

Rm.27)
Now let’s measure it!

Take your materials outside and

measure what we discussed for
both doors!

Remember to record your

findings!
Use your knowledge of
slopes Now that you researched the data of
the entryway to both doors, suppose
we propose building a ramp that leads
directly to the doors.

How steep should the ramps be?

Explain.
The guidelines for a wheelchair
ramp suggest that the ratio of the
rise to the run be no greater than
1:12.
Building
Guidelines Using the guideline, design a
wheelchair ramp that provides
access to doors of the office and
school psychologist. Illustrate your
design and explain why your ramp
1:12 ratio looks the way it does!
